Pier Design for Cass St. Bridge
Cedar Corporation designed nine substructure units for the new Cass Street bridge constructed over the Mississippi River in La Crosse. Access from trail below to sidewalk above (50’ ascent) by stair system incorporated into Pier #3. Cedar Corporation subcontracted to Earth Tech for pier design. The new curved bridge is about 2600’ long with a main arch span over the navigational channel (two main piers and arch were designed by WisDOT central office) and ten approach spans (superstructure was designed by Earth Tech). Approach spans are all steel trapezoidal box girders with double or triple tubs in each span depending on span length.
